At the Zurich University of Applied Sciences Winterthur different data is published according to different target groups and in different formats. This data is often redundantly presented in different data formats, which involve additional administration effort. Furthermore lectures are rather focussed on the employment of laptops and the associated electronic literature. As a result tutors are more and more confronted with the problem of not being able to provide their contents to the students on time. The students on the other hand criticize the non-uniformness of their tutors? websites, as they can hardly find the data they are looking for.

In this diploma thesis a system based on freely available open source components has been developed. This system allows integrating data, to uniform documents as well as arranging and publishing specific data in different formats. The main goal of the work was to create a basis for further development of the system, therefore the focus was laid on the expandability.

The architecture of the system is divided into the document administration on the one hand, which was realized by means of subversion, content administration / publishing on the other hand for which the Apache Cocoon Web Application Framework has been used. The chosen format for the system is the XML-Standard DocBook.

Core piece of the architecture is a metafile, which provides the necessary information to select specific contents out of documents to be published in different data formats. The overall system has been divided into three component based partial applications, which are optionally compatible and extendable.

The technologies used offer enormous possibilities to integrate and publish data. However the implementation and even more the combination of these technologies require a profound understanding and thus a lot of time and practice to become acquainted with it.
