Imagine you are visiting a city and are standing in a large square. There are many people walking around the square, in the middle of which stands a monument you'd like to photograph. All you want in your photograph is the monument itself, not any of the people. You try to get the shot you want but you dont succeed as there are always tourists in the picture. You try again and again, but it is always the same. After numerous attempts you give up. Now you have many photos but there are toursits in every one of them.

It is at this point that the TouristRemover comes into play. A software developed at the request of FutureLab, a company based in Winterthur, TouristRemover is a fully automated program which creates from several input pictures of the same scene a picture devoid of any unwanted moving objects.\\

It is very simple to operate. It starts from the console and takes only the input images as parameter. There is no complex graphic user interface. Within seconds it calculates the output picture.

To achieve this successful solution, we developed and tested different algorithms. First our algorithm analyses the input pictures. Offending objects will be detected. Now it will decide for each area which input picture should be the source for the output picture. At last the output picture will be rendered from the input pictures.

In addition, the algorithm was optimized for speed as well as new technologies like Hyper-Threading or DualCore being employed.
