DocBridge Mill is a software product of the Compart Systemhaus GmbH company. With DocBridge Mill, documents and printer spools can be analysed and separated in single documents. Furthermore, DocBridge Mill can extract key words from the documents, determine the type of a document and convert them into a document format, which is required for an archive system or a document management system.

DocBridge Mill is configured and controlled by a profile, which has to be composed manually in a text editor by an expert person. The syntax of these profiles is complex, not logically structured, vulnerable to errors and requires a comprehensive knowledge of the functions and processes of DocBridge Mill.

In this undergraduate dissertation, a first version of a visual designer was developed. With this designer, the processes of DocBridge Mill can be configured easily. The settings are saved in a generic configuration file written in the xml format. This configuration file was defined in this undergraduate dissertation and can be transformed by an xsl transformation to a product-specific profile. The designer, which is written in C# with Microsoft Visual Studio .NET, offers several graphical masks to enter data and a formula editor. The formula editor helps the user to efficiently construct or modify a formula and offers a catalogue of functions, operators and variables, which can be used by dragging and dropping them into the formula editor field.

With the DocBridge Mill designer, an archive process can be configured on a graphic user interface with no special knowledge of the syntax. The designer for the product DocBridge Mill was a long awaited wish of various customers of Compart Systemhaus GmbH and will undoubtedly be of practical use for many companies.
