For 2005 Mircosoft announced to release a new version of the .NET Framework. Together with the new Framework also a new version of the wide-spread web technology ASP.NET is being launched - ASP.NET 2.0. Microsoft points out that with the new release improvements within the ranges developer productivity, administration, management, performance and scalability of a web application can be obtained. A goal of this thesis was to analyze the new features of ASP.NET 2.0 the basis of Commerce Starter Kit. The Commerce Starter Kit is a sample ASP.NET application of Microsoft. The It is an implementation of a simple web shop. Besides the analysis of the new features, different migration scenarios should be investigated. We examined different environments of web applications, so that use and complexity of the new features could be determined purposefully. Thereby we have been searching for different demands which are made to web applications. Is it really possible to meet those demands with less expenditure in ASP.NET 2.0? For each new feature the use and the expenditure will be discussed. In addition we built the worthwhile features into the Commerce Starter Kit. We also provide a guide how to migrate web applications to ASP.NET 2.0.
