Whereas Risk Management since some time now forms an integral part of business management in large companies, it seems to be largely unknown in most SMEs. In this thesis a risk analysis is undertaken for an innovative medium-sized family-owned company. The company enjoys international reputation in the area of glass pilot plants for chemicals. The new risk management standard ONR 49000ff, gradually turning into an established standard, serves as a basis for the analysis. The scope of this thesis comprehends the company?s production process and the related risks of business interruption. Within the scope, an in-dept analysis is carried out of the two classical areas of risk management: building and IT security. Two particular areas of risk management are additionally analysed: production and process optimisation and representatives relations. The building and IT security were analysed based on the Closed-Loop Risk Management approach. The approach includes risk analysis, description of the consequences and drawing up appropriate measures. The most important measures in these areas are: Introduction of monitoring systems Labelling of emergency exits Integration of additional antivirus software Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) By approaching the specific topics in view of optimisation, potential areas of improvement were identified. Through appropriate measures the full potential can be tapped. For the representatives relations focus is given to a new guideline, whereas the introduction of an error manager serves as a focal point for the optimization of products and processes. The time horizon of this thesis allows nor a comprehensive risk analysis of the entire company, nor an exhaustive risk detection. This work serves as a preliminary study for further risk analysis.
