Initial Position For the past 13 years the flourmill Schenk of Ostermundigen has been using the application EasyKorn to control material and do the accounting. This program allowed them to plot the flow of goods, the delivery of grain, the grinding and the blend of different products. The goal of the diploma thesis was to write a modular replacement application based on java, xml and postgresql.

Proceeding The requirements, the database design and the implementation concept had been evaluated during our project work in winter 2004 (PA bsh 04/2). The concept has been slightly modified during the diploma thesis.

Results The implementation of the entire application would have been outside the scope of a seven-week diploma thesis. Thus the original task was redefined to take the limited time into account. During the course of the thesis the main booking tasks and the most important help programs have been implemented. Furthermore the concept for the reports has been written and three simple reports have been created. The connection to the SAP system has not been implemented due to lacking support of SAP as of now. The concept for the connection to the SAP system has been outlined though. A lot of time has been spent for debugging and testing for there is a very complex logic behind such an accounting application. Small bugs that were discovered were immediately fixed.

Future prospects As already mentioned the extent of the original task was too extensive to be finished in the timeframe given for the diploma thesis. Therefore some booking- and help programs, the connection to SAP and most of the reports have to be implemented at a later date. Aided by means of the documentation and the detailed comments in the program code it should be possible to design the missing parts within a reasonable time.
