The LEGIC Development Board, which is able to detect, read and write LEGIC RFID transponders, served as a basis of this diploma thesis. So far, communication with this board had been taken place by means of the serial interface. This diploma thesis concentrated on using the USB and IrDA communication interfaces for communicating with the development board.
In a first step, a hardware based on the LEGIC Development Board was built, which is using the USB interface for communicating with the controller on the board. To demonstrate the functionality of this board, a computer software was programmed, which displays the transponders found in the magnetic field of the board?s antenna.
The LEGIC Development Board can be fitted with infrared diodes to enable a communication over IrDA. On a Pocket PC, a software was implemented to display the detected transponders, but this time, the communication takes place over IrDA. For this purpose, an IrDA protocol stack has to be implemented on a PSoC, which serves as a communication coprocessor on the board.
