The Development Center is a software-component which is included in the DB2 Application Development Client product suite from IBM. This suite offers a solution that covers most oft the IBM DB2 functionalities wrapped up into one product. The Swiss Re runs the most of its data-volume on an IBM DB2 System. Therefore, the DB2-Team added the Development Center, together with further components, to their tool assortment. Their goal is to offer a suitable development-solution to support their software-developers in developing and using Java-Stored-Procedures.

The Focus of this issue aimed at the software?s deployment-process which included mainly tests, adjustments of the DB2-environment and gaining know-how about the tool.

During this work, it became clear that the available documentation of the affected software product was still superficial. Furthermore, the Development Center showed some problems which were to solve. Based on those problems, some important parts of the software were not properly running after it was installed. These problem areas were partially solved and partially reported to the IBM, which intends eliminate them in a further fix and a new version of the DB2 System. Both will be available in the near future. In addition, our attention fell on a further software component of the DB Application Development Client product suite, the Control Center. This software-tool offers functionalities which are likewise to a database-explorer and essential to a database-administrator. A further reason is that the DB2-Team has already been making cross-comparisons between other database-explorers.

This diploma contains results which mainly consist of two areas. On the one hand the DB2-environment has been adjusted, so that executable stored-procedures could be developed and on the other hand a product-documentation has been created, which is meant to give out to the developers and administrators.
