This diploma thesis deals with the design and implementation of a multimedia station. The multimedia station is able to store and manage multimedia data. A relational database system is used to store the multimedia data. In the current version, the system is limited to audio data. To control the multimedia station, a palm handheld is used to communicate over an infrared link with the multimedia station. The multimedia station is able to read music titles from audio compact discs and put them into the database. All the data that is needed for a complete album is entered in the control application on the palm handheld and is transmitted to the multimedia station. Of course, albums can anytime be removed from the multimedia station. A comprehensive search function let the user get an overview over the data, which is stored in the multimedia station and offers a convenient way of creating a playlist. The control application, running on the palm handheld, presents the data clearly arranged on its display.
