Databases and XML, two technologies which are standing for the future. Databases are used for several application areas since many years. With the rollout of the future-oriented data description language XML, brand-new perspectives were opened. XML enables for example to visualise the data of a database and can be used for the archiving of a database. The goal of our degree dissertation was to use this new possibilities by developing an application which can visualise the content of a database as an XML-file and insert the content of an XML-file into a database.

First we were engaged in the different technologies to analyse afterwards the problems of our work. There we had to find out the critical problems and got in touch with them. This part was very important because our solution concepts were based on those analyses. When the concepts were finally elaborated we began to implement the several parts. At the end we had to do miscellaneous tests to find out the bugs of our application. All this work steps are documented in our report. Furthermore we give a small overview about the state of the work and possible enhancements.

Summarizing it can be said that the interaction of databases and XML is going to find more and more his place on the market. For that reason we think that such application, as we have developed, will be very useful.
