Current Situation

Unfortunately, only large firms are able to take advantage of E-Learning at this time because only these firms have the necessary resources to operate an efficient E-Learning program. For this reason, it is difficult for the small and mid-sized firms and schools which already have to maintain their market position, to remain competitive with the large firms. Because the producers of the big E-Learning packages are not able to concentrate on the "niche" markets, there is an enormous potential to offer computer-supported teaching for schools and small and mid-sized firms

Solution

Because of this great marketing opportunity, the Virtual Training Campus (VTC) was developed as a cooperative effort of the ZHW diploma projects and their industrial partner firm, AIS.

Virtual Training Campus VTC the Smart Solution E-Learning Portal

With VTC, interactive teaching units such as courses, tests, surveys, certification and assessments can be created, managed and operated. All phases of active teaching units can be controlled. VTC will not be offered as a service like most of the solutions currently on the market, but as a software package that is easy to implement and operate. The VTC package consists of the VTC-Author, VTC-Portal and the VTC-Administrator. Courses can be developed using the VTC-Author or can be purchased from course suppliers. VTC can run on local networks and on commercial Internet Service Providers (PHP/MySQL required).

Our work concerned the conception and development of various modules for the VTC-Portal. It consisted of the following modules:

  • Preparation of the portal server
  • Creation of the VTC-Portal - front page
  • Preparation of the login procedure
  • The registration module
  • Operation of a chat room
  • Depiction of the teaching process
  • Operation of a forum
  • Search function
