Under the name of Draw4Cut application software was developed, which allows the automated creation of cross section plans for the wood craft industry.

The data for the work pieces of cross section projects are saved as types of part lists, which can be created in the program or imported as a data file in a CSV format. Therefore, the software Draw4Cut has the ability to interface with the widespread Excel spreadsheet analysis program.

The work pieces can be arranged automatically on cross section plans, where the fibre direction of the materials is also considered. For this function, an optimizing algorithm was developed, which minimizes the remaining rest surface and also considers the subsequent cutting process. The bases of the algorithm are two independently developed procedures. The first one tries out all available possibilities. This variant allows the search for an optimal solution, but has a high demand on the processor due to the calculations involved. The second procedure sorts out the work pieces according to their width and height and puts them into different categories. The remaining (free) surfaces in each category are used-up, step by step, due to the joining process of work pieces from other categories. In contrast to the first algorithm, the second one shows a remarkably high execution speed. The step by step procedure is a disadvantage in regards to the optimal utilization of the used material, due to the fact that the evaluation of the different variants does not include the whole plan surface. The implemented algorithm combines the two procedures.

Apart from the automated optimal arrangement of the work pieces, it is also possible to position the work pieces manually via the PC mouse. To identify the individual work pieces and to define their position, the Draw4Cut program, on the one hand, conducts a cross section table and on the other hand allows the creation of the measurements on the cross section plans.
