This work?s goal is the development of a control system for air speed regulation of a model glider.

During a project work in summer 2003 a physical model of a Pilatus B4 Plane (scale 1:7) was built in Matlab-Simulink. With it?s assistance two controller drafts where developed, of which the better one built the base for this work.

The main part of this project existed in the draft and implementation of an autonomous, embedded system based on a micro-controller for the discrete regulation of the model glider?s air speed. The software was developed in the high level language C. To get familiarized with the development environment was the first part of the project.

The hardware is built around an efficient 16-bit micro-controller from Reneseas. A two layer printed circuit board was developed and two prototypes where built. The system finds place in the plane?s cockpit.

The current air speed is measured by a high precision differential pressure sensor through the dynamic pressure in a pitot tube. This value is digitized and transferred to the discrete difference equation in the software , which computes the current control value for the elevator. To check the correct function during regulated flight, periodically all operating parameters are stored in a non volatile memory. This data are transmitted to a PC for later evaluation.

The development of the hard- and software is almost completed. The controller algorithm still needs some optimizations and maybe a further sensor will be necessary. The put goals where archived to a large extend. The project?s state permits experimenting with different controller algorithms with small expenditures.
