Although the technology of information and communication nowadays is well-developed, it is only used in business or for private purposes.

eBusiness and eCommerce are used daily in modern society. It is almost ?state-of-the-art?. The use of eBusiness by public authorities therefore seems predictable, especially because they start more and more to think of themselves as service providers. The concept of eGovernment combines several efforts from state, cantons and municipalities, with the aim of providing the service public on the web as well. These offers create an area of conflicts, because they need the meet the aims of technology, law, politic, society and economy. Some projects, as for example eVoting, even bring changes in fundamental rights.

The aim of this report is to explain the idea of eGovernment as well as to show the strategy of the Swiss government. Some important projects will be introduced and the current status of their implementation is being described as well.

Some of the usages are complex and therefore watched closely. Especially eVoting is often called into question, because it means that for the first time a fundamental right can be exercised electronically. It therefore is a question of principle. The main problems are listed in this dissertation.

Furthermore, we investigate on the topic of interface problems. There are claims for privacy, identity and anonymity, which can not be satisfied with the present technological situation. The legal framework is still incomplete.

It would be wrong to reduce the topic on technology and law. It is also a question of political framework and social circumstances.

The current status will be explained considering different projects from Zurich, Geneva and Neuenburg as examples. Because of the federalist system there are three different projects going on in Switzerland.

The conclusion includes our personal forecast for the future of eVoting in Switzerland.
