Goal

The goal of this diploma thesis is a mobile shopping assistant, whose task is to facilitate the entire process of shopping. The shopping assistant is to be completely implemented and operated in a real environment, a branch of our industrial partner Migros. For this, the requirements that were defined in the context of the preceding project thesis must be revised together with Migros. Further investigations are required in order to determine which data the industrial partner possesses and how these data must be prepared for the operation in a wireless client/server environment.

Initial Situation

This thesis is based on the results of the previous project work. The existing concept has to be revised and fitted to the needs of not only the customers, but Migros as well.

Functionality

The core part of the implemented solution is the shopping list, which administers the items that can be bought. The customer can create and administer several shopping lists and templates. The individual item list provides a user with his most frequently purchased items, while the action list informs him or her about discounted products. The client establishes a Bluetooth connection to the server to synchronize the data. To accelerate the process of shopping, the positions in the shopping list are sorted according to the optimal path through the store. If a certain item is difficult for the customer to find, a site map helps the customer localize it.

Results

The implemented software covers all posed requirements. Thus, we have achieved the goal to the full extent and created an operational solution that covers all basic functions of the shopping process. However, there is still a lot of development potential that has not been fully tapped yet in the current release.
