In civil air traffic anticollision systems have been known for long time. These systems alert the user if another airplane crosses his way. For private flying these profesional systems are much too expensive and do not recognise constant obstacles like towers, cabel railways and power lines.

The purpose of this research project was, to develop a cheap system for private flying, which can sense obstacles. Each object, e.g. airplane, heli or power line, is reduced to a simple geometric form and sends that, its position and its speed to all the other objects of the system. The objects use radio communication to exchange these informations. With added knowledge of the own positon and speed a collision can be avoided.

The software is developped in .NET and is running on a notebook. The graphical user interface shows next to the own position all other objects, which are connected to the system. It allerts in case of a possible collision. Additionally a moving map can be displayed on the screen. At the moment this radio communication is realised through GPRS mobile phones, which give the opportunity to connect to the internet. All the informations are sent to one server, that forwards them to all the other objects of the system.

This software has been tested in various set up situations and also in a simulation mode. These tests have shown that the software works flawlessly. But to complete the product, another communication platform has to be evaluated. Mobile phones can not receive signals in high altitude and because of that are not suitable for this system.
