This degree dissertation is a part of the research and development project Pemoxis, a project of the Institut fur Mechatronische Syteme (IMS). It is part of the Zurcher Hochschule Winterthur (ZHW).

The core target of the research project is the development of a mobile patient data monitoring system. Patients with heart insufficiency, for example, shall be monitored without to stay in a hospital. The wireless system shall give the patient the possibility to follow up its everyday business.

The data will be measured on the ear of the patient and send to a laptop over Bluetooth. There, the data will be displayed in a diagram and can be saved in a database. The received data will be checked and the system shows a message if the incoming data are critical.

The main target of the degree dissertation was to develop a software for a prototype. The application, based on Java, was build modular and is a template for further development. The main functions of the application are receiving, displaying and saving of incoming data. These can be collected from several patients at the same time. The data are displayed on screen in real-time and can be send to a printer if needed. An administration part organizes the patients and measurements.

For the future development of the project, the application shall be implemented new on a device, similar to a mobile phone. In emergency, this device will connect to a Centre-of-Care, to send warnings and the current position of the patient. On the base of the received information, preventive steps can be made.
