The canton of Zurich has realized the importance of information technology for schools. Whether and how computers can be integrated in lessons is one of the ba-sic questions. One possibility is the so called ?U-Learning Concept?, developed by SOHARD AG in the late 1990?s. The ?U? stands for ubiquitous, which means that the programme is available in every class room at any time.

The concept wants to introduce Tablet PCs at schools in Zurich. Tablet PCs are complete computer systems with an integrated Touch Screen. The Tablet PCs communicate over W-LAN with the local network. Because of the Touch Screen, there is no mouse or keyboard needed. With these Tablet PCs the pupils learn how to handle computer technology and how to work and study with it.

This paper gives an overview of the current situation of computer integration at schools in Zurich. Various network technologies to interconnect school nets as well as different types of Tablet PCs and software are discussed. Then the paper offers ideas of how to introduce ?U-Learning? at schools.

For realization there should be consideration about some points. Training courses should be offered for teachers, so that they can use the Tablet PC and the available infrastructure effectively. A further point is the content management. On the planned U-Learning Platform will be a lot of data stored. This information must be administered and organized and it should be held on the newest dates all the time.

The result of this study shows that the ?U-Learning Concept? is realizable and useful for teachers and pupils.
